Google Maps Goes Indoors?

I'm just curious...  Is anyone still suprised when Google comes out with something new?  I shouldn't be suprised, but I have to admit, I still do get impressed when I find out the latest little changes that they make.  The latest one I happened across today was Google Maps "Indoors".  Naturally, I click on the 'Learn More' link and start fiddling around with their demo videos (which, I have to say, they have really nailed it when it comes to simplicity and ease of learning).  After a few short minutes, I learned that Google is now heading indoors with their…

Google Apps for Non-Profits

There has never been a better time for cheap, even free, cloud-based productivity.  I've spent quite a bit of time researching cloud services the past month and I've come to one conclusion... I mean, two conclusions...  Err... I mean, I've come to 684 conclusions.  Phew, yeah that's quite a few.  What I'm trying to communicate is that today, when it comes to cloud services, there's quite a lot to choose from.  Of course, there may only be a few that really offer a well-rounded package.  Some of you may be asking, what is the 'cloud' anyway, and I really don't…

Getting Techno-Dizzy

It's Exponentially Overwhelming: I'm sure you've heard the term exponential growth before and you've probably heard that technology is growing, exponentially.  Do you understand how that formula works?  Basically, if something grows exponentially, it adds to itself the same amount that already exists.  This trend, as it applies to technology, is called Moore's Law, which was defined by Gordon E. Moore in a paper he wrote in 1965.  In it he stated that the number of integrated components in a computer was doubling every year.  That rate has fluxuated from doubling every year to about every two years, however, lets…

Passing of a Visionary-Jobs 1955-2011

The world now mourns the loss of one of the greatest technology visionaries of the computer age.  Steve Jobs passed away yesterday, October 5th, 2011.  Battling pancreatic cancer for more than a few years, Apple's founder was not able to hang on anymore.  I believe many people related to Steve Jobs on a personal level based on their affection for the devices he was responsible for imparting to the world.  There are millions of people who feel his passing as a personal loss in their own lives and that really is an extraordinary thing, yet if you consider the achievements…

Windows 8 Demo at Computex 2011

I've been keeping an eye on the development information surrounding Windows 8 as of late.  It isn't a big secret that I've often had complaints about Microsoft Windows for many years, having even turned to Mac and Linux for a safer computing environment.  I know that I'm not the only one who's been burned by Windows in one manner or another.  However, I'm not immune to the impact that a good OS can have on the community.  Therefore, I must admit that I see some interesting things about the direction of Windows 8.  This is a very transitional time for…
